Darkness of the Sands
An early season Milky Way rises over the darkness of the dunes out at White Sands, New Mexico.
The light pollution from the Roswell and Artesia and even Carlsbad can be seen.
The stark night was a little earie but beautiful. Every once in a while you would here some little critter scurrying on the dunes.
I can't convey the absolute solitude, the beauty, the silence out there after sunset. It's a remarkable experience and well worth the trip out there.
There are times when Holloman AFB fly maneuvers at night but usually a long way from the sands.
Once we saw two F-16's take over the sands like bats outta hell at a strange light over the Journada del Muerto area west of the Sands and then the light just disappeared and the jets were still out there flying around looking for the object.
Not sure what the hell happened but it was pretty crazy.
I've seen light s out to the west a couple of times out there and always wonder what the hell is going on out there.
